The Lifestyle Collective: British Plus Size Awards 2016
“Look demure and classy while feeling bold, beautiful and daring.” This is my daily mantra. Despite social pressures to look slender i.e. being a small as opposed to a plus size, for some, is considered more socially acceptable – Yikes! This could potentially lead to disaster indulging in skinny muffins only or lack thereof – there is a stronger emphasis on inner beauty, nowadays, which promotes a more positive message and a sense of empowerment. Such role models as Oprah Winfrey who has battled with her weight for years, Australian-born Rebel Wilson turned Hollywood star have broken the boundaries becoming major influencers not because of how they look but what they have to offer – intelligence, personality, charisma, determination, and a story to tell. My attitude towards feeling confident in yourself refers to such characteristics which give external beauty more depth.
What is encouraging is that men and women are progressively being recognised for their achievements and mere talent rather than judged based on their physical size or attributes which brings me onto an exciting event that will take place on Saturday 19th November – The British Plus Size Awards 2016. This prestigious ceremony rewards outstanding service and inspirational people, especially in the plus size industry. I was thrilled to find out I will be attending this year. As a style blogger, it is always refreshing and intellectually stimulating for me to delve into topics that are often overlooked to help create more awareness hence why I often support emerging brands and positive causes.
“The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been before” Albert Einstein.
From a fashion perspective, I can’t wait to share key style tips from The British Plus Size Awards. Fashion and style embrace individuality more than anything else so stay tuned to find out who will go all out. Jay Kamiraz who won the Daily Mirror Princes Trust Pride of Britain Award will host the red carpet. I will catch up with attendees inside the venue to find out which fabulous plus size brands they are wearing. Duncan James, who is best known as a member of the boyband Blue from 2000 to 2005, will present the ceremony alongside Dawn Gracie who has dedicated over 10 years to the entertainment industry. This celebrity black tie event will commence on the red carpet and then onto a champagne reception, followed by an award-winning 3-course meal during the awards and the show taking place at the exquisite Porchester Hall, London. So, perhaps it is time to book your ticket to avoid missing out.
