Style Icon’s The F’n’B Word: Brazilian or Hollywood? What’s Your Preference?

The thought of having a bikini wax is pretty scary don’t you think? None of us like to endure any sort of pain but for a little reassurance, the wax treatment itself is over before you know it. Either preoccupy your mind with something humorous or like my beauty therapist advised “Take a deep breath” and just go with it. The naked truth is always a surprise but in this case a pleasant one in the end. There are different types of wax treatments but two of the most popular are the Brazilian and Hollywood. If neither are for you then you can always do it yourself (the painless way using smelly hair removal cream). Needless to say, you won’t achieve the same results. If you can stomach a little pain what wax treatment is your preference? Brazilian or Hollywood?

Wax Treatment

First of all, I highly recommend going to a well-established beauty clinic like Depicool. You’ll find expert therapists in any high-end clinic so you would have established a good relationship with one or two therapists at your most visited clinic to trust the service. As I frequent Depicool on a regular basis and tend to see the same beauty therapists I feel less apprehensive about my wax treatments. The first thing my therapist does is give me 5 minutes to prepare for the treatment offering me a towel to drape across my lower body whilst lying down until she returns to the room. The wax is usually hot before the treatment is carried out but my therapist will always check to see if I am comfortable with the wax temperature. My beauty therapist then uses a spreader to apply the wax to the genital area in small amounts leaving it to dry before rapidly removing the wax with her fingers (in one go). It’s important to hold your skin taut as your therapist zips the wax off. This helps to reduce the stinging and removes your pubic hairs all at once. Some therapists use talcum powder which also helps to remove your hairs smoothly. Depicool therapists pay attention to such detail explaining the wax process as they go along so you are aware of what they are doing.

Wax Treatment

Once the front area is done, you will then be prompted to either lay on your stomach holding your butt cheeks apart to remove any hairs in between, remain on your back pulling your legs up high or flip over on all fours. Despite the graphic detail, these positions are pretty effective for removing all hair in the genital area and intergluteal cleft (in colloquial terms “butt crack”) Oops, excuse me for sounding so crude! If you opt for a Brazilian, you’ll be left with a tiny strip of hair but if you prefer to have all hair removed this is known as the Hollywood. I’ve had the latter done before but felt too young and innocent as opposed to feeling like a mature woman. That said, a Brazilian wax will always be my preferred choice.

According to a survey of over 5,000 people conducted by AskMen, it was reported that 41 percent of their male respondents prefer women to have no hair whatsoever. Thirty-eight percent find public hair acceptable so long as it is “trimmed,” and 15 percent have no preference. Subsequently, the men who stated their Brazilian wax preference also revealed an ulterior motive for this “A huge number of men were quick to point out that they really, really don’t like going down on women who have loads of pubic hair,” the AskMen editors reported. So, if you like to please your man then I guess a Hollywood wax would be your preference in retrospect of the AskMen survey results. To the contrary, and as Beyonce would say “All the women who are independent throw your hands up at me,” as an independent woman you’d want to please yourself first despite what your partner thinks.
