Style Icon’s The Fashion Word: LFW SS16 Fashion Scouts
Olga Roh is the brainchild behind the Rohmir fashion brand. Her spring summer 2016 collection showcased a diverse range of styles and colour. Strapless, wrap, and shift dresses dominated the catwalk; some of which were reminiscent of Kimono-style attire. A jumpsuit cinched in at the waist with a black belt stood out as a classic piece as most of the looks did. Olga delivered timeless fashion through an array of vibrant colours such as pink, orange, green and metallic colours. What looked like raw silk, chiffon and satin appeared to be the predominant fabrics; ideal for special occasions. These fabrics skimmed nicely over different silhouettes which showed a strong versatility. In comparison to bright ensembles, classic looks appeared in monochrome tones complimented by a statement clutch bag. Overall, a sophisticated fashion collection for the demure lady.
Judy Wu grows from strength to strength every season. Her spring summer 2016 collection delivered a somewhat eclectic femininity. Classic ensembles featured soft fabrics draped across the body, playsuits and dresses were a consistent look with contrasting prints and colours to add a unique as well as diverse element to the collection. What made Wu’s collection stand out as one of femininity was her use of silk, and chiffon fabrics which looked so soft under the lighting. The colour palette was rich in hues of blue, pink and coral with metallic tones blended in to offer a strong contrast. Wu’s fashion collection had a futuristic feel to it enhanced by her choice of earthy prints, and fabric construction. Overall, Wu’s collection was contemporary in style demonstrating a quirky and youthful play on fashion ideal for women of all ages.
The CCUOCO spring summer 2016 collection was sensual; to sum it up in one word. After successfully launching her fashion brand in 2014, Candice Cuoco presented her ‘Persephone’ collection; named after the Greek Goddess Persephone who was the daughter of Zeus and who is the queen of the underworld. Silhouettes stood out as a strong force with transparent ensembles leaving little to the imagination. Sheer skirts were layered with an under garment. Nonetheless, there was a slight twist to the show half way through, when two models wearing see-through dresses stopped on the runway and kissed one another. This wasn’t to be expected but somehow added to the theme of sexuality. Other stand-out ensembles gave the collection a rock ’n’ roll feel adding more glamour with under tones of sensuality – the fitted leather dress and trousers characterised the latter. The colour palette was strong with hues of red, black, and nude which toned everything down. Cuoco portrayed a strong message through her collection of a kind of twisted love story which somehow makes us think of the type of woman who loves to look and feel sexy without holding back. I guess one could argue that, in matters concerning love, one should not be afraid to hold back which can sometimes lead to mischievous situations.
