Style Icon’s The Fashion Word: The Reissue ‘2.55’ by Chanel
Thus far ‘Dry’ January has been pretty eventful ironically. Despite all efforts to detox throughout the entire month, things haven’t gone according to plan due to an influx of event invites welcoming you with complimentary beverages as a teaser. This isn’t me on a guilt trip but admittedly I love any opportunity to glam myself up, and socialise with good company whilst having a few cheeky glasses of wine (within reason of course). I did just that at The Naughty but Rice launch; a new rice pudding dessert brand which has collaborated with model and author Daisy Lowe. The event took place at The Hoxton Hotel, High Holborn on Thursday 21st January. As brand ambassador of Naughty but Rice, Daisy looked stunning in an Alice Temperley dress and a pair of black Christian Louboutin court shoes. I couldn’t help but think “Wow, that dress compliments her shape” hence why it’s important to dress well for your body type especially if you want to stand out in your clothes as opposed to your clothes standing out on you. I kept my outfit simple in style opting for a beaded top by Biba with cream, floral embroidery worn with a button front faux suede and leather skirt also by Biba. The colour palette of my outfit was fairly classic with black and cream as the main colour scheme. Like diamonds are a girl’s best friend so is a classic Chanel bag; a nice bit of arm candy with which to complete your outfit. I couldn’t resist a matte gold ‘2.55’ by Chanel that I came across in Designer Exchange’s Knightsbridge store. The amazing thing about Chanel handbags is that they are timeless. They work with anything be it a casual outfit that needs a touch of glam or an evening outfit that requires the Chanel final seal of approval. The choice is yours; either way you will look and feel expensive.
Designer Exchange have something for everyone with a simple ethos of designer handbag recycling. All bags are authenticated by industry experts before resold in their original condition at an unbelievable price. For example, the style of the Chanel bag I wore is the re-issue ‘2.55’ in quilted, matte gold leather. It’s small in size enough to hold those essential items such as your mobile phone, any chargers, make-up etc. Designer Exchange sell this Chanel for £1,500. I guess we are thinking the same thing “Wowsers!” You’ll be saving yourself quite a bit of money on a bag that’s in excellent condition even though worn once by the look of things. It also comes with a dust bag too so as to protect the leather. Gold or silver make great accent colours, and are easy to accessorise which I found with the matte gold Chanel bag. It accentuated my gold beaded Biba top. Here are a few more styling tips:
- I strongly believe less is more so incorporate one classic look into your outfit be it the accessories or the outfit itself. Rather than have everything stand out at once, have one key piece accentuate the rest of your outfit like Designer Exchange’s ‘2.55’ Chanel bag.
- Opt for metallic colours such as a gold or silver bag or shoes as they tend to neutralise an outfit. Think of a colourful backdrop or canvas like a colourful outfit, once you work in neutral colours you’ll have created a more balanced look. This way, other elements of your ensemble will get noticed such as the cut and fit of your outfit against your body shape.
- Choose a bag that is small to medium in size so you are able to carry those essential items.
- Avoid red wine! There’s always that fear of spilling wine on your outfit especially if you are wearing lighter colours. It might not happen but be extra careful.
- Wear your bag with pride like I did at the Naughty but Rice launch. Arm candy doesn’t necessarily mean you need a hunk of a man by your side. Having the right handbag is just enough nowadays to look and feel glamorous, and is considered the ultimate arm candy!
