Style Icon’s The Fashion Word: Naughty but Rice
It’s time to feast your eyes on something Naughty but Rice; a somewhat funny contradiction in terms as an indulgence in carbs such as rice is naughty but it’s great comfort food that we sometimes can’t do without traditionally speaking. In fact, a healthy dose of carbs won’t hurt us, and contributes to a balanced diet as we know. On that note, I was rather intrigued about the collaboration between stunning Daisy Lowe, model and author, and the new desserts brand Naughty but Rice. I attended the launch party hosted by Daisy Lowe herself at The Hoxton Hotel, High Holborn on Thursday 21st January. It was a pleasure indeed to feast my eyes on delicious pots of rice pudding along with sipping on cocktails throughout the evening inspired by the signature flavours of these cute puds which I will touch upon a little later.
Daisy Lowe caught my attention immediately looking stunning in an Alice Temperley dress and Christian Louboutin shoes. As a stylist, I couldn’t help but think “Wow, that dress really does compliment her shape” which cinched in perfectly at the waist highlighting her well-proportioned frame. From this realisation, it made sense why Daisy would make a great ambassador for the Naughty but Rice brand. She promotes a positive body image and isn’t your typical size 6 model. As a self-confessed foodie, Daisy also prides herself on healthy eating but, like most of us, has a few guilty pleasures which promotes a positive message especially to younger adults that it is ok to indulge, even after a rice pud, and still look and feel healthy. I asked Daisy what inspired this unique partnership to which she replied “I like to be naughty sometimes” I think we can all relate to this hence why Daisy’s subtle cheekiness sits well with the Naughty but Rice concept – “just the right size (of rice pudding) for a moment of individual naughtiness” Made in the UK, each little pot is 140g and comes in three tasty flavours; exotic Coconut & Raspberry, Chocolate Orange and saucy Salted Camarel. The latter seemed to be everybody’s favourite on the night. I gave into temptation and helped myself to more which confirms that these little pots of heaven can easily bring out the devil in you. They also have a silky texture to them unlike the rice pudding I used to get served at school which looked and tasted pretty dull. Now, rice pudding has made a glamorous comeback.
Overall, the launch night itself was great fun with delicious canapés, a photo booth, and Karaoke which kept most guests entertained as they sang along to Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”. Although I didn’t sing, I felt content whilst helping myself to a few more teaspoons of ‘Salted Caramel’ pud on the way out which made me feel ‘Naughty but Nice’ Excuse the pun!
Naughty but Rice is available from ASDA, Morrisons, and Sainbury’s. RRP £1 per pot. They are delicious hot or cold; either gently warmed in the microwave or eaten straight out the fridge.
