Style Icon’s The Fashion Word: MFW Highlights FW16
Milan Fashion Week is always a busy time on the fashion calendar showcasing current designer collections & trends. From 24th – 29th February 2016, Camera Moda are hosting FW16 with numerous fashion shows, presentations, and events taking place in Milan throughout the week. From across the globe – buyers, celebrities, journalists, bloggers; pretty much all the influencers, movers and shakers within the fashion industry head to Milan for fashion week. Looking glamorous is not an option, in fact it’s a MUST!
Day One is a matter of getting straight to business. It’s always a good idea to arrive one day before Milan Fashion Week commences so as to organise your wardrobe, and plan your schedule for the days ahead. The first show I saw was Genny FW16. There are some major trends coming your way if you consider yourself to be a true fashionista who doesn’t shy away from glamorous fashion. Genny FW16 has taken much of her inspiration from Josephine Baker who was a dominant figure in the roaring Twenties. The colour palette was soft with some deep autumnal tones – Rich in nude, monochrome, silver and fuchsia pink. The collection had more of a spring summer feel to it as opposed to having darker tones to reflect the autumn season. Genny pays attention to classic silhouettes/styles rich in fabrics and flamboyant detail. It’s time to put some life back into any jumpsuits you haven’t worn in a while. Genny showcases sexy jumpsuits, oversized coats crafted from mohair fabric, suit jackets with delicate couture-like shoulders and flared, high-waisted pants. Plunging V-necks worked in chiffon had presence throughout the collection as well as dresses and jackets cinched in at the waist with a wide belt. Furthermore, you’ll see more leather fringes next season and sultry one-shoulder dresses. What an inspiring collection which I am sure we will get to see more of during award seasons. In fact, Actress Jaimie Alexander sported a Genny dress at The 73rd Golden Globes. Feast your eyes on these beauties that made me swoon a little.
The next show on my agenda was Simonetta Ravizza FW16. The New Golden Age. If you adore super luscious fur then you’ll love this collection. “Everything begins with the accessory” SImonetta Ravizza says. Her collection also plays homage to hand-made pieces in exquisite mixes of fur and intarsia. To be carried or slipped around the waist, Simonetta Ravizza accessories are a true representation of her style. Her FW16 collection is feminine, and elegant showcasing an array of styles – Sloane Ranger blouses, A-line skirts, Coats and Jackets in demibuff and selvaggiato mink, sable, chinchilla, red and silver fox. An ever-flowing mix of furs embedded in the brand’s DNA. The colour palette is subtle with a pop of berry red and turquoise blue, as well as having been characterised by timeless classic colours – nude, black and white. Overall, fur takes centre stage with ultra-feminine maxi coats with wide lapels and biker jackets at the forefront.
Besides seeing the shows, it’s always a good idea to see the show presentations as this is a good way to meet designers in person, network and feel the clothes and accessories. Here are some of my favourites:
