Style Icon’s The Fashion Word: Fashion Parade Saatchi Gallery 2015
For one evening the Saatchi gallery was no longer the home to cutting-edge art but instead the backdrop to an array of silky saris and glamorous gowns displayed in this year’s Fashion Parade.
Currently in it’s third year Fashion Parade aims to highlight key innovative and yet culturally in-tuned trends from Pakistan and Indian’s leading fashion designers. This 11th June 2015 saw Aashni+Co presents Anamika Khanna, Syeda Amera, Seher Tareen, Areeba Asif, REMA, Rani Emaan, Ali Xeeshan, Rose Room Couture (by Aashni+Co), Hira Shah and Jyoti Chandhok. With an ethereal floral backdrop that complimented the styles on display perfectly it was natural that all of the designs seemed flawless in its portrayal of modern South Asian couture. Yet few stood out as Style Icon favourites, one of which included Hira Shah. Her collection encompassed soft hues of neutrals and pastels with western inspired silhouettes. We were particularly impressed with the intricate yet simple two-piece ensembles that were eloquently accessorised with floral headwear. We were to later realise that it was a great introduction to what we would be seeing throughout the show.
As highlighted by the following standout fashion collection derived from Areeba Asif. This fashionable compilation showcased not only the designer’s evident styling background but also her clear talent for composition. Based on mirror work you’ll find Asif’s set consisting of high-waisted numbers from a colour palette of mainly lilacs and mint greens. Though interestingly the pieces in hot pink were the ones which impressed us the most.
Not long we were then taken back to the 70s with Syeda Amera’s fringe motif. Feminine, fun and flattering we adored Amera’s collection and can easily envision a long and lasting career in fashion. From black and gold-jewelled bodycons to a red number accompanied with a lampshade-like headdress we were simply blown away by the fruition of this designer’s imagination; these ensembles were made to be worn to extravagant parties. Though if you were in search of luxe you need not look any further than the RoseRoom Couture’s masterpieces. The fabrics were of a very high quality and the colour fusions were so striking that we couldn’t help but be pleasantly reminded of Balmain when looking at this collection. The black and gold leather jacket as well as the plush pink suit on show were our favourite pieces and would look great at a red carpet event.
It was impossible to leave disappointed, as it was clear that there was something for everyone. Traditional arrangements were on display with thanks to fashion designer Jyoti Chandhok and quirky interpretations from designers like Seher Tareen with her pret a porter ‘Shakespeare’ collection. At the very least this fashion parade had a great amount of variety on offer as well as of course bouquet’s of exotic flowers and refreshingly delicious elderflower beverages.
Until next year…
