Style Icon’s The Fashion Word: Clock Up Your Air Miles at Chanel SS16
It seemed like the whole world was checking in at 10.30am in Terminal 2C, gate n°5 of Paris-Cambon airport, under the glass roof at the Grand Palais which was brilliantly transformed into a brightly-lit airport. The Chanel runway characterised by check-in desks behind which sat beautiful and welcoming airport hostesses, set the theme of Chanel Spring Summer 2016. Karl Lagerfeld made air travel look so glamorous and stress-free contrary to the sometimes mundane experience of checking-in in the real world! As a global fashion brand, Chanel is known for its worldwide destinations, and now Chanel has its very own airport; depicted in Karl Lagerfeld’s fashion show. The press release and show invites indicated that you were indeed travelling to a high-end fashion destination.
As the show began, passengers portrayed by models emerged one by one walking the catwalk to give a taste of what is to come for Spring Summer 2016. With no care in the world, some models wheeled along Chanel branded luggage trollies, and some occasionally stopping at the check-in desks to collect travel documents. Under the bright, white lights the collection truly came to life. Karl Lagerfeld offered a classy-feminine wardrobe typical of signature Chanel. Tweed skirt suits, full skirts worn over wide-leg pants dominated the runway. To the contrary, some silhouettes sported more casual attire in the form of track pants or knitted skirts with sweater combos topped with baseball caps and aviators (a classic must-have fashion accessory).
There were lots of layering which is set to be a major fashion trend for Spring Summer 2016: sweaters tied around waists for a sportier look. Karl Lagerfeld created a strong balance between casual and smart attire where everything was styled on point to create unique contrasts: casual jackets teamed up with smart trouser and skirt ensembles, and metallic accessories made a real fashion statement against a colour palette of monochrome, white, black, blue and red!
Trend Alert: The latest must-have wheelie trolley and wedge sandals with luminous soles. Silver accessories from a stylist’s point of view go with everything! The key thing is to not be afraid to mix and match which constitutes to recreating a fashion trend in your own way.
Overall, Karl Lagerfeld puts the glam factor into a capsule wardrobe hence the classic suit contemporary and trendy enough to wear to a cocktail party, and fab accessories that you’ll see young girls and demure ladies wearing. Lagerfeld throws everything into the mix with bursts of colourful energy radiating from bold looks! It might not be everybody’s choice to wear a baseball hat back-to-front with a skirt and trouser combo but this look is great for the runway! The only thing you need to do is pick out your favourites to incorporate into your own individual style. The grand finale saw Karl Lagerfeld walking the runway to then be greeted by the legendary super model Cara Delevingne. Perhaps, her kiss to him on the cheek made him swoon a little but who wouldn’t!!
