Style Icon’s The Fashion Word: Award Season Highlights 2016
Have you wandered what the SAG Awards, The Golden Globes, The BAFTAs, The Grammys and The Oscars all have in common? Eclectic Glam without sounding too obvious!! As well as being a celebration of exceptional talent in the film and music industries, such high profile ceremonies serve as a global platform for the stars to showcase their individual fashion tastes and to support their favourite designers from all over the world. As a stylist, I love nothing more than assisting celebrities with their red carpet looks. This is definitely not for the faint-hearted as you have to take into account the outfit itself in terms of how it compliments your client’s body shape as well as working in the right accessories to complete the look. Weeks of preparation come into play, the creation of mood boards, fittings and sourcing various items until what was initially a scattered puzzle becomes a complete picture! To create a master piece, there must be no missing pieces and everything must blend together which is part of the organic process of creating the ultimate red carpet look for your client through a reasonable amount of trial and error of course. My last award season blog posts saw an array of beautiful red carpet looks from The SAG Awards and Golden Globes. I would now like to share with you some of my favourite looks from the BAFTA Awards, The Grammys and The Oscars! It’s taken a while to do this as I was busy during fashion week having travelled to Milan to see some shows! For me, the red carpet is like a fashion runway! It isn’t seasonal but real – showcasing real talent and real people from actors, actresses, filmmakers, singers and to the designers themselves whose creations are magically brought to life on the red carpet with the world as their audience. Men and women of all shapes and sizes adorn beautiful outfits and accessories setting more trends than fashion week simply because they are influencers who normal people with their own dreams aspire to and can relate to. On that note, if you are keen to know what is trending I think the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Idris Elba or Alicia Vikander are more likely to influence your fashion choices than (I hate to say it) a size 8 model in the latest trend. Nothing wrong with the latter of course as I appreciate fashion which is represented in a respectful manner but we somehow always find humility in a natural story-telling environment with characters who are larger than life.
Here are some of my favourite looks from The BAFTA Awards – The 69th British Academy Film Awards were held on 14th February 2016 at The Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden to honour the best British and international contributions to film in 2015. This was a great tribute to some serious talent in showbiz today across Hollywood and England who supported their respective films at the biggest night in the British cinematic calendar.
My favourite looks from The Grammys – The 58th Annual ceremony was held on 15th February 2016 at the staples centre in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony recognises the best recordings, compositions and artists of the eligibility year, which was from 1st October 2014 to 30th September 2015.
My favourite looks from The Oscars – The 88th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, honoured the best films of 2015 and took place on 28th February 2016 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
Congratulations to all those who were nominated and won awards! The Style Icon Award for best dressed definitely goes to all my favourites! I guess, there’s plenty of awards to go around for everyone so until next year let’s just continue to inspire and be inspired!
