Style Icon’s The Fashion Word: Armoura Jewellery
You can always tell a true artist when they are able to take you on a journey through their work – a journey that tells a story about them as a person and their life experiences through which their creations have naturally evolved. Stuart McGrath; founder and designer of Armoura Jewellery trained in sculpture having worked in Dublin, London and Italy for many years before transferring his natural skills in sculpture to jewellery design where he developed the same principles of form, proportion and craftsmanship. If you appreciate fine jewellery like fine art or couture then you’ll instantly get caught up in a love affair with Armoura Jewellery. The beauty of the collection is evident in its eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional themes where Stuart’s designs range from stunning pieces embellished with precious and semi precious stones in yellow and white gold as well as platinum. If you’d prefer something a little quirky, there are plenty of other options, as some pieces feature animal motifs. From my understanding, the signature style of the Armoura collection stems from sculptural elements that replicate a place, era or emotion hence depicting a time in Stuart’s life when he was a master stone carver in Ireland. “These jewellery designs are a progression of my sculptural work bringing the stones and metal to life to tell a story” says Stuart. There are references to nature in some designs which give the collection a somewhat mystical presence.
The Emerald Star necklace is a beautiful piece that I find goes with any outfit. This stunning necklace is once again inspired by the natural elements such as the night sky and symbolises a compass in its design with an emerald cut stone in the centre surrounded by v-cut shards. The idea behind such imagery is to show that a compass navigates us back to our roots. Such creativity inspires me to think that if we ever get lost – emotionally, spiritually or mentally – fond memories rooted in childhood maybe or during a particular time in our life may well get us back on track just like a compass.
The Emerald Star necklace is made from solid gold or sterling silver 925 and hallmarked in Dublin, Ireland. The Emerald is a 3mm .9 carat stone and comes with an exquisite 925 chain. It’s no surprise that Armoura Jewellery has received a substantial amount of media coverage. Overall, a stunning collection from The Talented Mr Stuart McGrath not Mr Ripley this time around! One top tip, keep your outfit simple in the form of a little black dress or a classic white shirt with jeans and heels when wearing the Emerald Star necklace. Less is always more!
