Autumn – Winter Trends 2011
JEWEL TONES:
There were lots of rich colours on the catwalk at the autumn/winter 2011 shows. Less black and more vibrant shades such as ruby, sapphire, citrine, emerald, amethyst and garnet. For more glitz and glamour add glistening sequins and silks to jewel-toned creations.
ANDROGYNY:
Dressy Menswear – tuxedos, cummerbunds, silk ties and overcoats- is a neat option for evening. Watch out for plunging silk shirts.
RETRO SIXTIES:
Structured shift dresses are back. A classic trend, sophisticated and elegant. Look out for graphic print pinafores, knee-high boots, polonecks and miniskirts.
CLASSIC COATS:
Set to become a statement trend this autumn/winter ’11, floor-grazing overcoats. Lean, tailored styles boast a city look, while softer dressing-gown cuts present a more relaxed approach.
PRINT & PATTERN:
Autumn/Winter will be rich in print and pattern. Lavish winter florals, aztec prints, animal and polka dot print. The latter being very popular at LFW February ’11.
TUNIC & TROUSERS:
Autumn’s new easy uniform. Simple, pared-down pieces in wool and jersey work best by day, while at night look to slinky silks and metallic accents.
COCOON SHAPE:
Rounded Sleeves, pannier skirts and puffy shoulders are popular this season. Great for smaller silhouettes.
FOURTIES GLAMOUR:
Look out for longer-length hemlines. 3/4 length pencil skirts, fur shrugs, pearls, long gloves and slim belts.
GLAMOUROUS FUR:
Luxurious fur is back with a vengence!! Seventies-style coats and jackets in faux fur. Fur gilets and shrugs to accompany evening dresses!! Look sultry and glam!!
FETISH:
This trend is tantalising!! Look beyond the more extreme elements of this trend and play to the subtly seductive side of fetish attire. Watch out for the high street’s interpretation of this fun & playful trend in the form of restrictive corsetry, leather and bondage.
